Why Hydrus?

We would like to introduce you to Michelle “Shelly” Shryock. Shelly has been a part of Hydrus for almost 5 years as the office manager. “I keep the boss in line,” Shelly states.
A typical day for Shelly is spent dealing with various tasks around the office that keep Hydrus running. She deals with accounts payable, accounts receivable, multi-tasking jobs, customer service, entering and receiving orders, freight quotes, preparing shipment documents, and billing.
Background
Shelly has a BA in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Sociology from Mt. Mercy in Cedar Rapids, IA. She spent time as a coordinator for a Domestic Abuse Program. Participants were court ordered to complete the 26 week program.
Due to funding cuts, the program was eliminated. Hydrus was close to her home and presented the challenge that she was looking for.
Hobbies
When Shelly isn’t working she enjoys riding her Harley, gardening, golf, reading, and travelling.
Why Hydrus?
When asked why she enjoys working for Hydrus, Shelly said with a smile, “the customers are pleasant and fun to chat with. I learn new things everyday and it is a fun environment.”
Shelly has some favorite products. She owns G-Town Car Wash in Graettinger, IA with a friend. They use FC Ultra- 505 and PowerBlast- 507. “Customers rave about how clean their vehicles are and how there are no spots after drying.” She also enjoys Citrax. “Great degreaser for many things. Kitchen, especially the stove. It’s also a great stain remover on clothes, and bug deterrent outside in the summer!”
John is a foreman at the shop. He helps keep things in order, keep the team on schedule, and help make the products as needed. He has been at Hydrus for 15 years. We asked John what made him decide to work at Hydrus. “Willam Hurkey tipped me off to it. I had been a welder previously, but the smoke from welding affected my health. I decided to make the switch to Hydrus.”
Background
John is a high school grad, with two years in computer programming. He started working on farms and then working on oil rigs as a machinist. John has also driven a delivery truck for a small convenience store company as well as done welding.
At Hydrus, John started his career as a laborer making soap, and slowly worked up the chain to his current position as a foreman. “When I started I never worked with chemicals before. They were willing to teach and train me how to mix and create products. I am always learning.”
Hobbies
During John’s free time he loves anything outdoors. He has enjoyed hunting and fishing since a young man. Now he enjoys activities such as kayaking and snowshoeing, John enjoys being one with nature.
Aside from enjoying nature, John enjoys reading and watching TV. He loves spending time with family and travelling.
Why Hydrus?
When asked what he enjoys about working at Hydrus, John was quick to answer. “The guys I work with, out in the back part of the shop, are great. The nice steady work is also enjoyable.”
John’s favorite Hydrus product is 503 Grease Cutter. “It’s so versatile, you can use it on a lot of stuff for a lot of different things,” states John. “It’s the one I use most in my personal life.”
Wayne has worked at Hydrus since its inception. He is a Manager within Hydrus.
A typical day for Wayne is planning that days production. He plans the orders, pulls orders, and does labeling and shipping for orders as well. Wayne orders raw materials for Hydrus products and passes orders to general managers. He deals with the overall production planning for Hydrus.
Background
Wayne was a high school graduate who started off fresh from high school selling hardware at a supply store. He started managing the store within a year of employment. Wayne spent 15 years working at the supply store before working 15 years at Hotsy. Once Hotsy closed up, he moved to help at Hydrus.
He came upon Hydrus because the general manager at Hotsy decided to start it and he moved with the general manager to help.
Hobbies
When Wayne is not orchestrating production at Hydrus, he enjoys car restoration and gunsmithing. In his car restoration he has worked on corvettes and a 1980 Bradley GT Kit Car. He also owns a computer repair shop that he has had since the 80s.
Why Hydrus?
When asked why he enjoys working for Hydrus, Wayne had an interesting answer. “I like the challenges of planning the orders that come in, as fast as I can. It’s about getting the product made and out to the customer.”
Wayne’s favorite Hydrus product is 503. “We had tested it on my old beater. It had paint that was oxidized and fading. The 503 brought out the shine, and it’s looked new ever since.”
Today we would like to introduce you to Matthew Shryock. He works in all phases of Industrial Detergent Production. He was introduced to Hydrus from his sister who works at Hydrus.
A typical day for Matthew includes loading and unloading raw materials, equipment sanitization and maintenance. “If it doesn’t need a computer, that’s what I’ll do,” Matthew chuckled.
Background
Matthew was a high school graduate, who enlisted into the army and served for 4 years in the 82nd AIRBorne Div U.S. Army. Afterwards he spent 35 years of intensive carpentry work. He did restorations, remodels, taking old parts of a home and restoring it to their original glory.
Hobbies
When Matthew isn’t working he enjoys fishing, target shooting, and collecting antique woodworking tools.
Why Hydrus?
When asked why he enjoys working for Hydrus, Matthew stated, “Friendly, almost family like environment. They trust me to complete tasks, and don’t over-supervise.”
His favorite Hydrus Product is the Hydrus Laundry Detergent. “My mom uses it religiously!”
